La Traviata offers an operatic New Year’s Eve

Opera La Traviata will be staged from December 31 to January 4 at the Cultural Centre at 7.30pm.

Performed in Italian with Chinese and English subtitles, it is based on the play La Dame aux Cameliasby Alexandre Dumas, with music by Giuseppe Verdi and libretto by Francesco Maria Piave.

The original set and costumes were designed by Giovanni Agostinucci and co-produced by Opera Royal de Wallonie, Belgium, the Washington Opera and the Los Angeles Music Center Opera.

The production has toured the world to high acclaim, with classic arias like Libiamo, Tra Vi Sapro Dvider touching the hearts of operagoers.

Local tenor Warren Mok who, as producer, joins a strong production line-up including Joseph Rescigno as conductor and Maurizio di Mattia as director. The international cast includes sopranos Olga Mykytenko and Eteri Lamoris, and the Opera Hong Kong Chorus, Hong Kong Sinfonietta and Hong Kong Dance Company.

Tickets are $680, $540, $400, $260 and $120 at URBTIX outlets. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients.
